About Austin Independent School District

AISD logoThe Austin Independent School District (AISD) has developed a five year Middle Level Education Plan to support the 19 middle school campuses to ensure student achievement, confidence and character among all students. All middle schools will implement advisories in 6th through 8th grades to assist students in developinglife-long social skills reflected in the AISD Character Education Touchstone balanced with academic support.

The AISD serves 82,074 students on 110 campuses. AISD has a richly diverse student community, including children from all economic levels and all kinds of backgrounds. Students come from homes in which 57 different native languages are spoken. These include children from Uzbekistan, the Sudan, Mexico, Bolivia, Vietnam and South Korea. Fifty-seven percent of AISD students are Hispanic, 27 percent are Anglo, 13 percent are African American, and 3 percent are Asian. More than half of the AISD students come from low-income families, and 20 percent enter the district's schools as English-Language Learners.
