MODULE 5: The Four Sector Society
The Unites States can be divided into four major sectors or parts of Society. These four sectors represent different dimensions, have different priorities, but frequently overlap or reinforce one another. The Profit Sector is business and the corporate world. The U.S. is a market-based economy of capitalism. The Government Sector is our system of representative democracy and rule by law. The Household Sector is frequently overlooked, while also being in the "four sectors" to deliver many goods and services—the family. The final sector is the Independent Sector, often called the civil society, third, charitable, nonprofit or volunteer sector. This sector is uniquely larger and well developed in the U.S.—representing the power of individuals organizing themselves for the common good.
