“I” on Philanthropy Presentation Explanation and Rubric

Instructional Procedure(s):

Anticipatory Set:
Play “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson once more for the students. Ask them if their interview experiences changed or added to their understanding of the song. Explain that these new understandings will be the focus of the presentations they will be creating.

  • Using the “I” on Philanthropy Presentation Explanation and Rubric (Attachment One), explain to the students what will be required for the presentations.

  • Present materials to the students. Emphasize that they may use the chart paper, markers, etc. to create a visual aid, but it is not necessary to do so.

  • Allow students time to work on their presentations in class, monitoring their progress by checking in with individual students.

  • For the next day (or two, depending on your class size), have the students present.

Assessment:

Evaluate students’ reflection presentations by using the rubric.

Cross-Curriculum Extensions:

Encourage students to return to their agencies or continue philanthropic work in the future.

“I” on Philanthropy Presentation Explanation and Rubric

For the next two days we will be working on a three-minute presentation that will reflect upon your experiences learning about the non-profit and philanthropic organizations in our community. In this project, you will take a quote from the interview that you completed and think about what this quote says about how identity is affected by doing philanthropic work.

You will be presenting this through some creative means. This could include song, dance, rap, poem, a drawing and explanation, or a skit. You will have today’s class period to complete it and we will be presenting for the class tomorrow. Whatever you do not complete today in class will be homework tonight.
