Unit Overview:

Students will explore the organizations in the community for volunteer and career path opportunities to provide a new perspective on roles and contributions of the philanthropic and government sectors.

Unit Purpose:

A unit designed to enhance the student's understanding of the role that philanthropy plays in our society in conjunction with our system of Government.

Unit Objectives:

The learner will:

  • generate and evaluate possible resolutions to public issues.
  • argue the role volunteerism should play in preserving a civil society.
  • identify career interests in the volunteer and government sectors.

Service Experience:

Although lessons in this unit contain service project examples, decisions about service plans and implementation should be made by students, as age appropriate.

Students will have the option of visiting or volunteering at community service organizations

Unit Assessment:

Essays, survey, visitation or volunteer experience.
