The learner will:
- list attributes associated with heroes.
- identify real heroes with whom they are familiar.
- describe someone who exemplifies civic virtue and contributes to the creation of a civil society.
- identify disparities between American ideals and realities.
- develop a plan of how we might bridge the gap between American ideals and realities.
- explain how historic figures of a particular time period or event have worked for the common good of their community.
- explain how women and minority figures worked for the common good of their community.
- identify stands by political candidates on issues which deal with civic virtue or the betterment of a civil society.
- develop a plan toward the betterment of a civil society within their school community.
- model the behaviors of civic virtue.
Students will develop and implement a plan to recognize heroes within their school community.
Students will be assessed on presentations about historic heroes using a scoring rubric, journal entries, participation in a game and making a personal plan.
