Kwanzaa Principles
Dear Family,
We have studied the final four principles of the African American holiday of Kwanzaa in class. Please talk about the following principles as a family. The student should complete the “Do” activity (with help, if appropriate).
Principle Four: Supporting each other with our money and business
Discuss: How do we share the things we have? What businesses in the community do we really like to support? Why?
Do: Write about a time that you helped someone else with your time, or your talent, or by sharing something of your own.
Principle Five: Purpose
Discuss: Have you ever thought about what is most important to you? Do you have goals that help other people? What does it mean to have a purpose?
Do: Make a goal to do something that is good for the whole group.
Principle Six: Creativity
Discuss: What do you do that is creative? Do you like to dance, sing, paint, do crafts or cook? Being creative may help you feel good. What would your day be like without creativity?
Do: Do something creative and show your family.
Principle Seven: Faith, or Trust
Discuss: Why is important for family members to trust each other? What would happen if you didn’t trust each other to make good choices?
Do: Do one thing for someone else in the family that you know he or she will really like.
