Focus Question

What does it take to persevere and display courage in the face of racism, prejudice, and discrimination? How does society benefit when all people are given equal opportunities to succeed academically and economically?

Unit Overview

These lessons tell stories of African Americans in history who have persevered in the face of discrimination in order to impact the course of history for the common good. Many African American scientists worked for unequal pay and without recognition, yet continued to work for the common good.

Service Experience
Youth use their voice to raise awareness of current issues of racism and prejudice and take action through advocacy. They make a poster, and ABC book, or take other action that raises awareness of treating others with respect.
