Unit Overview 

Learners gain awareness that their active participation in community life (volunteering, elections, advocacy) makes their community and government stronger. They analyze through fables how characters reveal their values through their actions. 

Service Experience 
Learners will take a community survey to determine what projects can contribute to the common good. They will use economic reasoning in selecting the service project in which to allocate their scarce resources of time, treasure and talent.

Learners will identify the ways citizens can become active participants in the community through political parties, interest groups, voting and providing public service. They will use the terminology of philanthropy and determine situations of need in the community to plan future service projects.
