"I" on Philanthropy
Students will create a resource for the school library that lists information about the non-profit agencies and philanthropic opportunities in their own community. They will use interviewing techniques in order to create this resource. Students will reflect on the concept of philanthropic involvement shaping self-identity.
Students will be introduced to philanthropy and the non-profit sector in their community. Discussion will center on the idea that personal identity can be shaped by involvement in philanthropy. Children's literature and popular music will be used in this lesson.
Students will conduct a service-learning project as they interview members of the local non-profit community. After gathering information from the interviews, students will create a resource that lists information and details about each of the organizations.
