Unit Overview

Children can find poetry everywhere: lyrics to songs, commercials, and on social media. They look for philanthropic themes found in poetry, then write poems with themes of community, generosity, and empathy.

Service Experience
Art from the heart: Celebrate artistic talents and find a way to share these talents with others. Follow the children's interests to find an organization or group of people who would appreciate a poem to brighten their day. This may be soldiers, veterans, elderly people in a retirement home, or a local child with a serious illness.

We find poetry everywhere: lyrics to songs, commercials, and picture books. Poems express strong emotions and observations of relationships with each other and the world. Sharing their poems to communicate care can be an act of generosity.
