Keeping Our Pets Safe in an Emergency
Through a better understanding of disasters and emergencies, and researching animal welfare needs in the community, the learners will understand the need for emergency preparedness including for animals. They share their knowledge with their peers.
This lesson is designed to help the learners understand how important it is to be prepared for an emergency situation and how it relates to animal welfare. The learners will use the information gained in this and other lessons to develop a plan of service in response to the need for emergency preparedness, especially as it affects animal welfare.
This lesson is designed to raise the awareness level of the learners about emergency situations that arise with very little, if any, warning. The learners will develop ways to inform others about the necessity of being prepared for both their safety as well as the safety of their pets. Their pet’s welfare is in their hands because pets depend on their human care givers to provide for them.
This lesson is designed to engage the learners in a service learning project of their creation that will benefit members of the community.
