This lesson develops a common vocabulary and understanding of philanthropy, identifying philanthropists as people who give time, talent, and treasure and take action for the common good. They hold organizations and people accountable for their actions with the common good as their motivation.
Learners will understand the meaning of “philanthropy,” associated concepts, and the qualities that philanthropists share, especially those qualities of character and personal virtue.
Learners will analyze the “new philanthropists,” who they are, what they give, to whom they give, their personal qualities, and how they hold people and organizations accountable for their philanthropic efforts. They will consider different causes and issues which they might support.
