Philanthropists in Our Midst
Learners highlight philanthropists in their community by writing a newspaper article. They may interview a senior citizen about their life of philanthropy.
Learners will describe the significant impact that philanthropists have made in American civil and political life.
Learners will identify examples of philanthropy in history and compare them to the giving of some modern day philanthropists and foundations. Students commit to a "random act of kindness" plan.
Learners will identify qualities that exemplify philanthropists and recognize those qualities in a local philanthropist. They will recognize the local philanthropist by creating a newspaper article for inclusion in the local paper.
Teacher Note: Prior to teaching this lesson, the teacher will collect stories from the local newspaper about people who have been philanthropic to use as examples with the learners.
