Unit Overview

Students learn about various kinds of philanthropy, from individuals doing "random acts of kindness" to corporate philanthropy and careers in the nonprofit sector. They have the opportunity to practice philanthropy and learn the characteristics of a volunteer. They identify organizations in their own community as "for profit" or "nonprofit" and explore job opportunities in the nonprofit sector by listening to speakers from various organizations.

Service Experience
Students conduct a needs assessment by interviewing different nonprofits about their needs. Together they make a plan to take action for the common good.
