Students learn about various kinds of philanthropy, from individuals doing "random acts of kindness" to corporate philanthropy and careers in the nonprofit sector. They have the opportunity to practice philanthropy and learn the characteristics of a volunteer. They identify organizations in their own community as "for profit" or "nonprofit" and explore job opportunities in the nonprofit sector by listening to speakers from various organizations.
Students discover that corporations often give generously to support community causes, programs, and issues. They look and listen for names of companies that donate or sponsor efforts to make a better world and research the local companies that give back.
Students will describe career opportunities in the nonprofit sector.
