Students explore a variety of community resources and find ways to contribute their time, talent, and/or treasure. They make connections with community nonprofits, elderly people, and Nobel Peace Prize winners in the global community.
Students will research some local community organizations to better understand the real application of the terms "philanthropy" and "hero."
The class identifies a local non-profit organization and plans a service project to support the endeavor.
In this lesson, students interview elderly people in their community asking specific questions regarding their connections to philanthropy. The students recognize that the community is connected in many ways through generations and over time with a common purpose of making the community more beautiful.
Students research a Nobel Peace Prize winner to gain understanding of his/her philanthropic contribution to our global community. Students present their research on a display board and share the information on a family night.
