Learners explore the historical Selma to Montgomery March through reading primary documents to develop historical perspective. The learners identify the elements of philanthropy as demonstrated by the individuals involved. Learners conduct a School Climate Survey to assess the issues of diversity within their school and implement a plan of action that arises from one issue identified in the School Climate Survey.
Learners will discover the historical background for voluntary citizen action for the common good as essential to evaluate actions and consequences of actions for individuals and society.
Engage students in the process of civic involvement through completing and analyzing a school climate survey.
Learners will build community through identifying and implementing an action plan addressing one issue as identified in the School Climate Survey.
