For learners to be good stewards of the Earth they need to learn about personal actions that impact the environment. The children learn about ocean animals and the ocean environment, and answer the question: What can we do to take care of the ocean environment? These discussions lead to a writing activity reaching out to an organization for more information about oceans.
The purpose of this lesson is to motivate children to think about the ocean, it’s animals, pollution, and how to be environmental stewards by taking care of the habitat where these plants and animals live. Children will have a hands-on experience to help them understand how pollution and waste affect the ocean environment.
The lesson helps children understand that the plants and animals that live in the ocean depend on a clean environment. They continue to develop the concept of stewardship of the Earth. Children will learn that the animals in the ocean are capable of cleaning a small portion of the ocean, like we clean our homes, but they need our help to keep the ocean clean too.
The purpose of this lesson is to gather information about sea animals and share it with other classes or other groups of children.
This lesson will demonstrate to the children that animals need a safe environment just like humans do. They will discover that even small creatures can make a difference in an ocean environment, just like they can make a difference in helping to protect the ocean environment by not littering or polluting the water.
