Youth and Learning to Give

Course of 3 Sections

With guidance from Learning to Give resources, youth interact in their local community to learn the skills, knowledge, and actions of lifelong philanthropy. This course follows the main menu (above) of the website with stories, tools, and resources for empowering youth agency through philanthropy, from understanding their community and themselves to learning skills and knowledge and taking action. 

CE Credits 

After completing this course (about 45 minutes), the learner is prompted to take a bief quiz based on the content. Upon successful completion of this quiz, the learner may request a certificate suitable for a professional development portfolio, or as proof of .75 educational clock hours that can be used toward continuing education credit in most states. Please contact your State Department of Education or school district for specific information. Documentation of the completed courses and copies of the certificate are stored under "My Account" of the Learning to Give website where the learner may access (and print) them at any time. 

Objectives 

The learner will:

  • gain tips and tools for empowering youth agency through philanthropy.
  • define philanthropy as giving time, talent, or treasure and taking action for the common good.
  • follow the philanthropy education process of building their role in the community, developing philanthropy skills, and taking service action.

Through Learning to Give resources, youth learn the skills, knowledge, and action of lifelong philanthropy. The variety of activities from the BUILD COMMUNITY menu item (above) help young people get to know their community and who they are in relationship to their community. These activities help young people develop an understanding of the traits, resources, and needs in their own community. They explore nonprofits and the needs they address. The interactive SEL activities help youth develop self-awareness and understanding of their role in their community.

Through Learning to Give resources, youth learn the skills, knowledge, and action of lifelong philanthropy. After learning about their community and what they care about, they explore activity choices from the DEVELOP SKILLS menu item (above) to learn about the issues they identified as areas of interest or passion, or they can explore ways to use their voices.

Through Learning to Give resources, youth learn the skills, knowledge, and action of lifelong philanthropy. After exploring their role in the community and learning philanthropy skills, young people take action for the public good. The activities and stories in the TAKE ACTION menu (above) empower youth to make a difference.

This quiz has four multiple-choice questions based on the mini-course "Youth and Learning to Give." If you answer 75 percent correctly, you will have the opportunity to download a personalized certificate. You may revisit the course and retake the quiz, if desired.
