Learners explore the variety of job opportunities available in the nonprofit sector, many of which may use their skills and interests. In the nonprofit sector, the work is meaningful because it focuses on a mission to make change for the better. 

We define the nonprofit, or third, sector and explain why it is important as an alternative power structure.

This lesson emphasizes the importance of voluntary action for the common good based upon student understanding of one's rights and the corresponding responsibility to protect them.

Young people discuss and debate the issues related to ethical consumerism and the common good, and consider how their spending habits reflect their values.

The learners identify a common area where trash accumulates and plan a clean-up project. 

In this lesson, participants join a playful group called Poseidon's Protectors who are sworn to protect the watershed and oceans. They write a letter to Poseidon telling about their 3-part plan to protect. 

Small personal actions can be first steps in a life of service and civic engagement. Voting and civic action are small examples of responsible citizenship. Advocating for what we value is a demonstration of a citizen's rights. 

Learners reflect on universal obstacles to persevering and write creative "one-liners" to help them face obstacles with creativity, determination, and humor.

Learners reflect on their own experience with trustworthy behavior or respond to a quote about trust.

In this activity, the learners discuss and illustrate what it means to show respect for their personal identity, values, and emotions.
