Through teaming with younger children, learners will determine the meaning of unfamiliar words in context and use encouragement to help others learn to read. They will determine how their acts are a form of community capital as they build trust with their younger learners.

The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate to the learners that everyone has a responsibility to be good stewards of the land. They will gain a deeper understanding of volunteering and the opportunity cost involved.
High school learners will design and present information from their historical narrative projects to other learners (elementary, middle or high school level). Learners will reflect on how the interview experience has affected their attitudes toward the elderly.
Students use journaling or role-playing to reflect on the benefits to the community of truthfulness and straightforward actions. They analyze traits and actions of someone who has built a "good reputation."
This lesson challenges students to think of their personal responsibility to act when they observe unfair treatment. They respond to a scenario as a whole class and then work in small groups to analyze personal responses to a specific situation of their choosing.
