The president of the United States is often considered to be the most powerful person in the world. Students will analyze how significant presidential power is and investigate ways that it creates tension between the executive and legislative branches of the government.
The students will review the concept of philanthropy through viewing a logo. They will design original logos that represent philanthropy and related ideas. They will explore philanthropic behavior as it relates to the arts.
Unit: Action through Art
The learners read stories written and illustrated by teens about action and advocacy to make the world a better place. The students brainstorm concerns/issues they have about their school or local community and create story outlines about ways to address an issue.

Unit: Funding the Arts
Students learn how nonprofit organizations contribute to the common good by supporting the arts. They role-play as members of the board of a foundation focused on the Arts who are making a funding recommendation to bring the Arts to the children of the community.
The learners will trace how executive power is derived and used in this country, and evaluate its potential for influencing change in the nation.
