Unit: Drumming from the Heart
The purpose of this lesson is to have students identify the shared gifts in the folktale, "The Drum" and determine their relative value. The students brainstorm gifts they have to give (time, talent, and treasure) and the value these gifts may have to others.
Learners will define poverty by listing its characteristics and effects. They will identify organizations which serve those who are in poverty. They will analyze the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and determine whether poverty is a violation of the document’s principles.
