Unit: Where's The Sand?
This lesson will introduce the learners to the human and physical characteristics of desert regions around the world. It will include plants and animals that inhabit those deserts and how people living in desert regions use resources wisely.
Students explore the cultures of different countries through the food, costume, celebrations, geography, education, music, and other features of a chosen country. The lesson requests the use of parent involvement, and culminates in a vivid presentation at a school assembly.
Unit: Cultural Competence
In this lesson, we broaden our awareness of different cultures and how they celebrate holidays. An optional service project includes writing letters to request diverse holidays be added to the community calendar, if they aren't already observed.
Students assess their personal diets and view pictures of families around the world with the food they eat in a week. Through awareness and discussion, they view cultural and regional differences. They discuss the health, cost, and distribution of food around the world.
Students recognize that they belong to a global community that shares resources and interests. Learners define stewardship and exhibit responsibility by helping to care for our "small world."
