Learners will recognize the importance of taking action in defense of core democratic values. They will identify philanthropic acts and describe their importance to the common good.
Students will identify jobs according to their sector of the economy and describe four important character traits, including the role they play in our communication styles.
The purpose of this lesson is to reinforce philanthropy concepts through art. Expressions of the senses of touch, sound and smell will have learners demonstrate tolerance for diversity.
In response to the book, Thank You, Mr. Falker, students identify the negative effects of teasing, bullying and discrimination. The students relate philanthropy to positive treatment and respect for others and consider the effects of their own behavior on others.
Through literature, students see a garden as a place where an individual can go for inner peace and solitude. They show environmental responsibility by sharing a garden within a community.
