The students distinguish between for-profit and nonprofit organizations. They identify nonprofit organizations in their community and create an information cube to share with their families to increase awareness of philanthropy within their own communities.
Learners get inspiration from the work and words of Mother Teresa about performing small acts of kindness. They select a project and make a plan for carrying out a small act of kindness with a group or individually.
The purpose of this lesson is to reflect on the value of focusing on long-term impact. Students reflect on the importance of not getting discouraged when their actions don't seem to make a difference in the short term.
In this lesson the learners will discuss why some people are able to meet goals and some are not able to do so. They will also use a survey to determine a personal self-discipline score.
