Students will reflect upon how philanthropy shapes self-identity.

Duration:

Objectives: 

The learners will:

  • reflect on and present information about how philanthropy contributes to identity.
Materials: 
  • “I” on Philanthropy Presentation Explanation and Rubric (Attachment One)
  • “Man In The Mirror” lyrics and recording
  • Chart paper, markers, scissors, etc. to make props or visual aids

  1. Anticipatory Set:Play “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson once more for the students. Ask them if their interview experiences changed or added to their understanding of the song. Explain that these new understandings will be the focus of the presentations they will be creating.

  2. Using the “I” on Philanthropy Presentation Explanation and Rubric (Attachment One), explain to the students what will be required for the presentations.

    • Present materials to the students. Emphasize that they may use the chart paper, markers, etc. to create a visual aid, but it is not necessary to do so.
    • Allow students time to work on their presentations in class, monitoring their progress by checking in with individual students.
    • For the next day (or two, depending on your class size), have the students present.
Assessment: 

Evaluate students’ reflection presentations by using the rubric.
