Enable students to methodically assess their choice of philanthropic giving and decide where to make a $500 donation.

Objectives: 

Students will:

  • Tell the class which organization they have selected to receive a check
  • Illustrate the similarities and differences of their choices and describe why they decided as they did
Instructions:

  1. Students defend their decisions with research and personal preferences. 

  2. After lunch, students contact their respective organizations and invite a representative to a luncheon the following week to receive a check.

Assessment: 

Each student will present a $500 check to the charity of his or her choice at the end-of-course luncheon. The recipient can comment on the student’s selection and understanding of the organization’s mission and need.
