Participants gain awareness about the work of local nonprofit organizations through research and by interviewing representatives. They summarize the mission, needs, and impact of the organizations on the community.

Young people read about the talents and interests of people who took action for the common good during the Civil War and Reconstruction. The youth identify some of their own talents and match them to nonprofit organizations they can support today.

Children learn about the issues of plastic in the ocean. They learn the effects of plastic garbage on the environment, including the lives of animals.

Each learner sets an individual goal using a goal-setting strategy. The group reflects on perseverance and how to persevere when the plan gets difficult to carry out.

We define what fairness means and compare and contrast definitions. Participants build empathy as they discuss others' experiences with fairness.

In response to the story of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott, learners reflect on the barriers and challenges to addressing an unfair situation. Given a list of ways to respond to unfair situations, they match them to a list of unfair situations.

Learners review healthy eating habits and share their learning to promote a healthier community. 

Learners examine the statistics of voter turnout in the Federal Elections and from these statistics the learners draw some comparative conclusions.
