Unit: Nonprofits in Our Community
In this activity, participants explore the work of several nonprofit organizations. They contact a local nonprofit organization to learn more about their organization, what they do, and how young people can help.
Unit: Character Education: Caring (Grade 8)
We investigate and expand our understanding of caring and determine things or people we care about.
Learners determine different ways that they show caring. They write the things they care about in word webs related to "how" they care about each thing.
Unit: Animals in Sports and Entertainment
Learners identify ways to use advocacy to promote change.
Unit: Small Steps; Great Journeys
Small personal actions can be first steps in a life of service and civic engagement. Voting and civic action are small examples of responsible citizenship. Advocating for what we value is a demonstration of a citizen's rights.
Unit: Character Education: Respect (Grade 6)
In this lesson, we recognize that we all have biases and privileges. It is helpful to be aware of them so we see them as part of our identity and not a reason to judge or discriminate.
Unit: Character Education: Respect (Grade 7)
This lesson focuses on another type of respect: valuing the world around you. Learners analyze a John Muir quote and discuss what they can do to show respect for the world.
Unit: Character Education: Caring (Grade 7)
Learners reflect on simple actions that can make a difference to at least one person, and maybe make a bigger difference as the kindness is passed on.
