Unit: Concepts of Leadership
This lesson will introduce Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her involvement with the woman's movement. It will focus on her work, in conjunction with others, to change women's rights in the United States. It will also show her concern toward fugitive slaves, a common thread of the women in this unit....
Learners will identify qualities that exemplify philanthropists and recognize those qualities in a local philanthropist.
Using literature and research, learners will identify acts of philanthropy that occurred during the Civil War era.
Students investigate and share information about environmental organizations to compare and contrast how the three sectors differ in their purposes, goals and achievements.
This lesson will develop understanding of philanthropy through definition and actions. Activities for students to get to know themselves and their classmates, utilizing concepts of philanthropy, will provide learners with meaningful opportunities for later service learning projects.
