Students brainstorm community needs and how they may be addressed. They explore why taking action is good for the giver, the person receiving the gift, and the community. They make a plan and take action to address a community need related to hunger or homelessness.
Unit: People Who Work
Students will brainstorm jobs that make up any community. Students are introduced to the concepts of “profit” and “not-for-profit” in their own community.
Students make the connection that responsible community behavior involves acting for the common good. They will identify volunteer positions in the community and find a volunteer opportunity for themselves.
Unit: Buzzing is BEE-lieving
Students build a positive relationship with a group of people outside the classroom (retirement community, hospital, daycare facility, another classroom, etc.) through performance and discussion about "believing in yourself."
Learners will define community, identify how community is/has impacted their personal lives, and share ideas and develop a plan whereby they might also make an impact on their community.
