Students investigate and share information about environmental organizations to compare and contrast how the three sectors differ in their purposes, goals and achievements.
The purpose of this lesson is to assist students in identifying the different sectors in our society and the role each plays.
Students will begin to ponder the essential questions regarding philanthropy, which they will consider throughout the unit. They will formulate answers, and be familiar with the terms associated with philanthropy and democracy.
Unit: Living In a Community
Students learn that the community has four sectors: business, government, nonprofit and family. The students take a walk through a central business district in their local community and identify which sector funds or is represented by different buildings, business, parks and so on.
Students will determine how they can be most effective in sharing their newly acquired financial expertise, and will be mentored and guided as they propose, plan, problem solve, and implement a service project that address promoting financial literacy and responsible use of credit amongst peers...
Unit: Whose Job Is It?
Create a scenario that frames a problem and have students think about the role of the four sectors (private, public, independent, and family) to address problems.
