Unit: Living In a Community
Students learn that the community has four sectors: business, government, nonprofit and family. The students take a walk through a central business district in their local community and identify which sector funds or is represented by different buildings, business, parks and so on.
Learners will visually present their findings from Lesson One. They investigate a local nonprofit through an interview with an employee and orally present this information.
Unit: Encouraging Volunteerism
Students investigate and share information about environmental organizations to compare and contrast how the three sectors differ in their purposes, goals and achievements.
To define profit and nonprofit organizations and explore the variety of careers available within those sectors. Students will prepare questions and then interview individuals involved with those careers.
To bring awareness to the importance of partnerships between nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government agencies and how they can work together.
Unit: We the People... Project
Students will use various investigative procedures to compile a list of government or volunteer service opportunities.
