Living in a Community: Intro. to Philanthropy Unit (1st)
Students learn what it is to be a philanthropist. The students recognize their classroom is a community that works together for the common good. Students gain understanding through literature, song, and personal experiences of what it means to be both a community member and a philanthropist.
This lesson will introduce students to the concept of philanthropy. As a class, they will brainstorm possible ideas for the word philanthropist. The students will learn that even young people can be philanthropists.
The students recognize that their classroom is a community because the students are brought together for a common purpose. The students are encouraged to be philanthropic within their classroom, school and family. They reflect on how philanthropy and trust affect the common good of the community.
