August Events and Resources

August: Establishing a Culture of Service

As you set the stage for a year of service and community engagement, introduce some of these themes and lessons that build a common vocabulary of philanthropy and explore how and why we give. Help youth discover they are truly assets to the community with time, talent, or treasure to give that is valued and needed.

  • TeachOne for Back to School - Simply “TeachOne” to get started with a one-session lesson and project idea. Share a common theme with other groups/classes.
  • Cultural Competency - Activities and discussions to build awareness of and generosity toward people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Character Education - Middle school character education advisory lessons with academic, character, and philanthropy themes.
  • Build Community and Kindness - Explore how acts of kindness impact the whole community with lessons and project ideas.

This 3-minute video defines philanthropy and helps you get started teaching about giving time, talent, and treasure for the common good.
