In this lesson, young people research various types of renewable energy and write a persuasive statement about which energy source their city or county should invest in. 

By comparing lightbulbs, young people learn about technology, energy conservation, and personal responsibility. Their personal choices can impact family energy costs and reduce the amount of energy consumed for the common good.
 

Explore how electricity is used and measured. Through data collection tables, young people analyze how much energy their families consume and reflect on ways to conserve energy.

In this lesson, participants join a playful group called Poseidon's Protectors who are sworn to protect the watershed and oceans. They write a letter to Poseidon telling about their 3-part plan to protect. 

The purpose of the lesson is to educate learners about watersheds, ways in which water pollution occurs, and how important proper use of watersheds is to them.  After understanding the importance of the watersheds, they will recognize that wise usage of their local watershed is an example of stewardship.

Through observation of the water cycle, we discuss the importance of water as a nonrenewable resource. Why is being a good steward of this resource an example of acting for the Common Good?
 

Learners identify ways for individuals, nonprofits, and governments to take action against excessive destruction of the rainforests of the world.
