The purpose of this lesson is to begin an investigation of the state of the environment and observe the effects of pollution on it. The students begin to strategize about their responsibility to be environmentalists.

This lesson will emphasize that, from the beginning, women have made significant contributions to American history and philanthropy by taking a stand to support their beliefs. One of these women who showed courage to contribute to the common good was Pocahontas.
Unit: Around the World
Using the themes and content of geography, learners examine and demonstrate knowledge of cultural elements and traditions of selected nations of the world and how they impact philanthropy and stewardship in world regions.
Through investigating traditional examples of culture and illustrating the impact of philanthropy in Asia, learners will gain an appreciation for Asian life and society. Learners will gain knowledge of the geography of Japan and China.
The purpose of this lesson is to have the students create a map showing the route from their school to the soup kitchen that they visited. They will share the map and describe their experiences at the soup kitchen with their caregivers and/or classmates.
Students will see their classroom as a community with shared resources and identify ways each individual can support it by doing philanthropic deeds.
The learners will trace how executive power is derived and used in this country, and evaluate its potential for influencing change in the nation.
