Learners will analyze the “new philanthropists,” who they are, what they give, to whom they give, their personal qualities, and how they hold people and organizations accountable for their philanthropic efforts. They will consider different causes and issues which they might support.

Using texts and experiential learning experiences, this lesson emphasizes the reasons why giving tzedakah, or charity, is a fundamental concept in Judaism.
The students will review the concept of philanthropy through viewing a logo. They will design original logos that represent philanthropy and related ideas. They will explore philanthropic behavior as it relates to the arts.
The students experience a simulation demonstrating unequal treatment and discuss justice and fairness. Students will reflect on Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream of equality and his actions as a philanthropist.

To have the learners analyze, interpret and evaluate an annual report of a foundation or nonprofit organization and answer questions in relation to it, and to participate in class discussions regarding budgets, fundraising, and distribution of funds.
Students will recognize different job opportunities available in the nonprofit sector and identify people in the community who have positions in nonprofit organizations.
