Unit: Philanthropy 101 Course of The Westminster Schools
Purpose: To share with students how a successful local nonprofit was formed and how laws have been changed as a result of its advocacy work. In the case of Road Safe America, the nonprofit's advocacy work affected laws dealing with the trucking industry.

Learners describe good nutritional practices and make a plan to eat healthy.
Unit: Community Health and Safety
Participants gain exposure to how citizens organize in response to a need. They observe the benefits of group cooperation. They review data they have collected from surveys and work in collaborative groups to identify focus areas for the service-learning project.
Using a brainstormed list of health and safety issue areas, participants design and implement a survey. They poll a group of friends and family to determine what health and safety issues are of greatest concern in their community.
Unit: Project on Poverty and Homelessness at Sea Crest School
Students learn facts about hunger and food insecurity and understand the three stages of hunger.
Unit: Healthy Youth, Healthy Community (6-8)
Students explore the meanings of community and healthy. While moving around the classroom in an organized game, they have conversations about healthy communities and healthy choices for themselves.
