Community Health and Safety
Through fact-finding and a community survey, students identify health and safety needs in their school and/or neighborhood communities. Based on their conclusions they collaboratively problem solve, design, and carry out a plan to address those problems.
Students define philanthropy and identify health and safety issues they encounter in their community. They create a visual display showing issues of health and safety that are important to them.
Students create lists of health and safety issues. Through cooperative methods, the learners construct an original health and safety survey of issues affecting their community.
Students gain exposure to how citizens organize in response to a need. They observe the benefits of group cooperation. Students review data they have collected from surveys and work in collaborative groups to identify focus areas for the service-learning project.
