To identify the qualities students see in effective leaders and create a life-size picture of a good leader emphasizing the body parts that represent those qualities.
To have students identify the things that are important in their lives as a means of finding a “passion” or “passions” the class holds in common. Students will then identify causes that deal with an issue related to their shared passion. This will guide the teacher in selecting and promoting potential community partners for the Urban EdVenture Final Project.
Youth Activity: Participants create a collage depicting philanthropic traits and actions. This collage serves as a visual definition of philanthropy. See the handout for supplemental faith-based discussion questions.

Students will research a food program and write an essay.
Students explore how charity and philanthropy address hunger and poverty.
Students experience empathy for people who are homeless by listening to a song and completing the “I Am’ poem assignment.
Students experience working and unemployment through a very simplified role play.
Students will learn about federal social service programs over time and SNAP, the food assistance program.
Students will learn about the similarities and differences of the hunger situation in the two different classifications of countries: industrialized nations and developing nations.
Students will learn about overpopulation and its connection to hunger.
