  1. Anticipatory Set:

    We've been talking about responsiblity, its definition, and the steps involved in making decisions to be responsible. Today, we'll meet an historic figure who was instrumental in shaping the Republic of Texas.

  2. Give each student a copy of Handout One: Manuel Lorenzo Justiniano de Zavala y Saenz. Tell the students to read the biography and underline in the text the responsiblities he took on throughout his life.

  3. After completing the reading, invite the students to answer the questions either orally or in writing. If the oral method is chosen, please ask students to note in the text where they find support for their answers.
