Unit Overview 

The purpose of this unit is to assist the learner in developing a deeper understanding of what it means to be a steward of the environment and to apply this knowledge to identified environmental problems as they relate to landscaping and gardening. 

Service Experience 
The purpose of this lesson is for the learners to experience putting to use, in their school and/or community, what they have learned about environmental stewardship, landscape design and gardening. Learners will identify an agency in their community for the implementation of their “Landscape Garden Makeover” design.

The purpose of this lesson is to provide the learners with knowledge of landscape environments and more specifically landscape environments around their own homes, school, and community, so they can be better informed stewards about conservation. 
Teacher Note: The Natural Resources Conservation Service program known as Backyard Conservation Project, which will provide the framework for this lesson.
