Write a Grant Proposal

3, 4, 5

Together, the participants write a grant proposal to request funds to complete an identified service project.

PrintOne 45-Minute Session

Gather information and complete a grant proposal to request funds.

  • Grant proposal form from the local Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee (usually completed online)
  • Details and plans for the group service project, created in the previous sessions

  1. Anticipatory Set:

Go online at the local community foundation to read some of the service projects funded by the Youth Advisory Committee. Talk about what they fund, and review the goals and impact. Look at the proposed project the group developed in the previous sessions and look for ways to improve based on the sample grant reflection.

  2. With one person sharing the grant proposal form on screen, go through item by item to complete the form, responding to the questions or information requested. Submit the grant proposal.

Find out when they make their decisions and wait for notice or next steps. Sometimes they have further questions or ask for a presentation on the project.

    • When you receive the grant, write a thank you to the Foundation Youth Advisory Committee.
    • Carry out the service project. Be sure to credit the YAC in any publicity regarding your service project.
    • Usually a final report is requested after completion of a grant-funded project. This is good public relations and a way to ensure consideration for further grants.
Cross Curriculum

The service project, which the class has determined, will be the experiential component.
