Kwanzaa: Unity Within Community
How does an individual use personal interests and strengths to impact the common good?

The unit gives an overview of Kwanzaa and teaches the seven principles of Kwanzaa - one per day. Students learn vocabulary and are challenged to apply the principles to their everyday lives in a way that enhances the communities to which they belong. They demonstrate their understanding through the arts and relate it to some aspect of their own lives. This may be adapted for any grade level by selecting the parts of the lessons that are age appropriate.
Students are introduced to the origin and purpose of Kwanzaa and make a kinara, or candle holder, to use for the rest of the unit as they learn about the seven principles of Kwanzaa.
