The purpose of this lesson is to assist students in identifying ways the different sectors have demonstrated community stewardship through philanthropy.
Students will learn how to participate in a needs assessment for their local community.
Students will interact with older citizens in order to make intergenerational connections in the community, discover the wealth of history around us, and develop pride in and a sense of connection to our community.
Students will be introduced to the concept of philanthropy and the history of philanthropic deeds in Michigan's early history.
To create an awareness of the businesses within a community and their purposes.
Students will learn about the work of a local nonprofit organization.
The purpose of this lesson is to develop an appreciation for the importance of follow-up letters.
The purpose of this lesson is to have students develop appropriate interview questions, interview a philanthropic organization, and present information to the class. This lesson is a continuation from Lesson One: Characterizing Philanthropic People.
