Students analyze the essential qualities of the Core Democratic Values and how these values are evident in relationships and behavior at school and in the community/nation.
Students will begin to ponder the essential questions regarding philanthropy, which they will consider throughout the unit. They will formulate answers, and be familiar with the terms associated with philanthropy and democracy.
Unit: Freedom to Choose
Students look at The Mayflower Compact and recognize that freedom to assemble and worship was the “Pilgrim's” main goal—worth all the opportunity costs. Students analyze the first amendment of the Constitution to recognize that freedom is a fundamental right in the United States.
Learners will define government and describe a democratic republic with a Constitution. They identify the role of government at all levels - national, state, and local and talk about what young people can do to have a voice.
