How does an individual use personal interests and strengths to impact the common good? 

Unit Overview 

Students learn the meaning of philanthropy and community and ways to practice philanthropy in the school and neighborhood in which they live. They will learn about these concepts through music, movement, and creative dramatics experiences. The students create a product to give to an organization that works with children.

Service Experience 
The students will perform a variety of songs appropriate for children ages two to eight. The performance will be videotaped and donated to the local hospital Pediatric Unit for use with the children.

Students will listen to a story and then act it out together. They identify the themes of community, caring and sharing and describe the advantages of cooperation for the common good. They describe how the characters' experiences are alike and different from their own experiences.
